Report: St. Laurence’s –v- Suncroft @ 3pm in Old Grange
Round 2 of the Aldridge Cup /Charlie Keatley Perpetual Cup
On a bight sunny Saturday afternoon, two neighboring clubs St. Laurence’s and Suncroft competed in a game where the winners would take 2 points in the Aldridge Cup and the Charlie Keatley Perpetual cup.
The first point of this local derby was one of many scores to be scored by Ronan Lawlor on that afternoon. Suncroft replied with two nice points from Kevin Kelly and Niall Corr and a free kick scored by Trevor Moran. St. Laurence’s answered back with two great points from play from Ronan Lawlor and Tommy O’Neill. Suncroft went one ahead again with another fine point coming from Trevor Moran, but the Larries were soon to equalize with point from their centre back Colm Kane. St. Laurence’s started to up the tempo and saw a great passing movement end in great score by Ivan Keatley . The last score of the 1st half was a cracker of a goal from Ronan Lawlor to leave four between the sides at the interval. St. Laurence’s 1-5, Suncroft 0-4.
Suncroft started the better of the two sides in the second half with a goal coming from a well struck penalty taken by Trevor Moran. The Larries responded extremely well to this and created plenty of scores. (Sean Higgins 0-1 and Ronan Lawlor 0-2). This was followed by a great solo run up the field by young Alan Higgins that resulted in a super goal by Ronan Lawlor. Mossy Harnett and Bart Brennan narrowed the gap between the sides but this was only for a while. The Grease Valley boys played some great football with further scores coming from Ivan Keatley and Ronan Lawlor(0-2), with Sean Higgins working hard, involved in the creation of these scores.
Corner back for the Croft, Johnny Corr got one back for his side but that man Ronan Lawlor was not finished scoring just yet. He was to score another goal for the home side finalizing his tally for the afternoon at 3-6. Tommy o’Neill scored the Larries final point while Trevor Moran added one final point for the croft at the opposite end of Old Grange.
